The Iranian Presidency Officially Reveals A List Of 2,986 Names Of Victims Of The Recent Protests

Tehran: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has ordered the publication of the names of approximately 3,000 people killed during the recent protests and unrest in the Islamic Republic, according to the Iranian presidency.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement on the official website of the Iranian president’s office said, “Based on the policy of transparency, accountability, and responsibility, and by order of President Masoud Pezeshkian, after compiling the names prepared by the country’s forensic medicine organization and matching them with the civil registry, a list of the complete data of 2,986 victims of the recent incidents has been published.”

The statement reveals a discrepancy of 131 names between the official death toll (3,117) and the published list. The statement explained that this discrepancy is due to the fact that the identities of these individuals have not yet been determined.

The protests in Iran erupted in late December 2015 following the devaluation of the national currency and later escalated into wider confrontations. The protests reached their peak after calls from Reza Pahlavi, the son of the deposed Shah of Iran. The internet was shut down across the country, and casualties were reported among security forces and protesters.

Iranian authorities accused the United States and Israel of orchestrating the unrest and announced on January 12, 2026, that the situation was under control, despite reports of internet outages and casualties among security forces and protesters.
