Fuad Hussein Reveals: Thomas Barrack Will Take Over The Iraq File From Mark Savayaf

Baghdad: Foreign Minister, presidential candidate Fuad Hussein revealed that Mark Savaya is no longer serving as US President Donald Trump’s envoy to Iraq.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, in an exclusive interview with Kurdistan 24, Hussein stated, “Mark Savaya is no longer Trump’s envoy to Iraq, and Thomas Barrack is currently managing the Iraqi file in his place.”

Regarding the position of Iraqi Prime Minister, the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s presidential candidate explained that “the coordination framework still insists on nominating Nouri al-Maliki, but the recent American stance has created a new situation, and it is unclear whether Washington’s view of Maliki is temporary or permanent.”

In another part of the interview, Hussein addressed the issue of the presidency, noting that “the Kurdistan Democratic Party has the right to nominate a candidate for this position. However, the party is prepared to relinquish all its other positions in Baghdad to the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan in exchange for the presidency.”

He also stressed that it would have been better if the two parties (the KDP and the PUK) had agreed on a single candidate, emphasizing that if a final agreement is not reached, the House of Representatives will decide on the president’s election.
