Baghdad: The Ministry of Justice announced the release of 751 inmates during January 2026.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a Ministry statement indicated that “the monthly tally of inmates released by the Iraqi Corrections Department during January 2026 reached (751) inmates in Baghdad and several other governorates.”

It clarified that “among those released, (370) inmates were freed under various judicial decisions, while the number of inmates covered by the General Amnesty Law reached (381).”

The Ministry confirmed in the statement that “the Iraqi Corrections Department continues to monitor and implement release procedures after the completion of all legal requirements, in accordance with the approved legal frameworks, reflecting its commitment to performing its professional and humanitarian duty with the highest levels of accuracy and responsibility.”
