Riyadh: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan affirmed that relations between Riyadh and Ankara are of paramount strategic importance for peace, stability, and prosperity in the region. In an interview published by the Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat on Tuesday, Erdogan highlighted the historical ties and mutual responsibilities binding the two nations.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Erdogan’s visit to Saudi Arabia aims to expand consultations on regional issues and advance bilateral relations to higher levels, with a focus on economic cooperation. The visit’s agenda includes meetings related to finance and business, emphasizing the desire to enhance economic potential.
Erdogan discussed several key issues, including the Palestinian question, a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, and the situation in Syria. He also addressed economic matters, aiming to elevate trade relations, investments, and joint projects. The Turkish President pointed to the significant potential in sectors such as economy, trade, investment, energy, tourism, transportation, and logistics, stressing the need for concrete projects based on mutual benefit.
In the defense sector, Erdogan emphasized cooperation based on mutual trust, enhancing capabilities, and raising technology and production levels. He noted that joint production and technology exchange would strengthen defense capabilities and solidify the strategic partnership.
Addressing regional developments, Erdogan stressed that scenarios disregarding the region’s values and identity would result in more suffering. He expressed opposition to military interventions against Iran and emphasized dialogue and diplomacy to resolve issues. Erdogan reiterated Turkey’s readiness to mediate between Iran and the United States to reduce tensions.
Regarding the Gaza Strip, Erdogan emphasized the importance of a permanent ceasefire, protection of civilians, unhindered humanitarian aid, and ending forced displacement. He called for immediate reconstruction and addressing basic needs in Gaza, advocating for a gradual Israeli withdrawal as per UN Security Council Resolution 2803.
On Syria, Erdogan highlighted the need for a political solution driven by the Syrian people, with Turkey and Saudi Arabia supporting efforts to strengthen Syria’s unity and stability. He expressed optimism about positive developments on the ground and in diplomatic efforts, emphasizing Turkey’s commitment to constructive steps alongside Saudi Arabia.
