Erbil: The Erbil Asayish Directorate has announced the arrest of a suspect involved in the killing of three members of a single family in Erbil.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Directorate received information on January 25, 2026, about the murder of three family members in the Shorsh neighborhood. The authorities promptly initiated necessary measures and investigations, ultimately identifying the suspect as (A.A.A.). Following this, the investigating judge at the Erbil Asayish Directorate issued an arrest warrant for the suspect.
The Directorate’s statement revealed that the suspect attempted to flee towards Kirkuk in a vehicle owned by the victims. However, law enforcement intercepted him, and after a confrontation, the suspect was arrested while injured. During the investigation, the suspect confessed to the crime, admitting that he was acquainted with the family and had entered their home late at night with the intent to commit the crime.
Medical examinations indicated the suspect has a history of mental health issues and had previously been treated at a psychiatric hospital in Erbil. He is reported to suffer from a chronic mental illness. The investigation file has been forwarded to the appropriate court, and the investigation is still ongoing.
