Foreign Minister Supports Iran-US Negotiations in Oman


Baghdad: Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein affirmed Iraq’s support for the negotiations scheduled to take place in Oman between Iran and the United States. The Foreign Minister stated in a press conference with his French counterpart, Jean-No«l Barrot, that resolving problems must be achieved through negotiations, not violence. He explained that keeping the region away from the flames of war is the duty of all countries.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Foreign Minister continued to express the importance of regular meetings of the Iraqi-French Economic Committee. He emphasized that the situation in Syria negatively impacts the region, particularly Iraq. Additionally, he indicated that the Ministry of Defense has signed a contract with the French company Thales to purchase military radars.



For his part, French Foreign Minister Jean-No«l Barrot acknowledged the current tensions in the region and the real risk of military escalation. He added that France will continue its support for Iraq, noting the country’s entry into a new era of bilateral relations with France. Barrot stressed that stability in Iraq is essential and highlighted the country’s hopeful recovery, indicating France’s support for holding the third Baghdad conference at a later date.
