Basra: The Ministry of Health carried out a destruction operation today, Thursday, which included 44 kg of narcotics and 91,126 psychotropic pills.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Health stated in a press release that the operation was conducted under the supervision of a specialized committee. This committee was headed by Judge Osama Dakhel Salman, representative of the Supreme Judicial Council and Chief Judge of the Integrity and Money Laundering Investigation Court in Basra. The event was attended by representatives from the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, the General Authority of Customs, the General Directorate of Narcotics Affairs, and the Border Guard Command/Customs Police. All necessary procedures, including examination, sorting, and inventory of the stored and seized materials, were completed at the Forensic Medicine Department of the Basra Health Directorate.
The Ministry added that the operation was witnessed by the Director General of the Basra Health Department, Abbas Khalaf Ali, the National Advisor for Mental Health, Adnan Yassin Mohammed, and Brigadier General Hammam Abdul Majeed Aoun, Director of the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Directorate in Basra. The destruction was conducted in environmentally friendly incinerators at a temperature of 1000 degrees Celsius, ensuring the complete elimination of the materials and their conversion to ash, in line with the highest environmental and health safety standards.
The Ministry continued by stating that this step is part of the Ministry of Health’s strategy to implement the government program, establish the fight against drugs as a national priority, enhance community prevention, and protect the country’s health security.
