Erbil: The city of Erbil is set to host the “Kurdistan Region Without Addiction to Drugs and Psychotropic Substances” conference this coming Sunday, focusing on combating drug addiction and raising community awareness. The event is organized by the Office of the Coordinator of International Recommendations and Support for the High Committee for Combating Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, in collaboration with the International Organization for Human Rights and Refugee Affairs.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the conference will bring together various stakeholders, including officials from the Kurdistan Regional Government, the Federal Government, the judiciary, political parties, UN agencies, international organizations, and religious figures. Dindar Zebari, the Coordinator of International Recommendations in the Kurdistan Regional Government, emphasized the importance of this conference in addressing drug addiction issues and garnering international support for expertise, consultations, and logistical and technical assistance.
Zebari highlighted that the conference will examine the regional government’s strategy on drug combat and review the efforts of government institutions, while also identifying challenges and opportunities. A significant announcement expected at the conference is the launch of a comprehensive project named ‘Survival.’ This initiative aims to support Kurdistan Regional Government institutions and local entities, enhancing prevention, treatment, and psychosocial support efforts in the region.
