Al-Fatlawi Elected Deputy Speaker of Arab Parliament: A Triumph for Iraq and Women

Baghdad: Iraqi MP Hanan Al-Fatlawi has been elected as the deputy speaker of the Arab Parliament, marking a significant achievement for Iraq and a historic moment for Iraqi women. Al-Fatlawi expressed her commitment to elevating Iraq’s presence in regional and international forums, heralding her election as a victory for the nation and for women across the Arab world.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Al-Fatlawi spoke about her new role after being elected during the Arab Parliament’s general session in Cairo. She expressed her honor in representing Iraq and her hope for the country to maintain a robust presence in both Arab and international assemblies. Her election is particularly noteworthy as she is the first woman in over four years to hold the position of deputy speaker of the Arab Parliament.

Al-Fatlawi extended her gratitude to Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi for his support in her nomination and acknowledged the backing she received from both Iraqi and Arab members of the Arab Parliament. She emphasized her dedication to fulfilling the expectations of the Arab populace, raising Iraq’s profile, and ensuring that Iraqi perspectives are well-represented in Arab and international platforms.

Reflecting on her four years as a member of the Arab Parliament, Al-Fatlawi highlighted her efforts in conveying Iraq’s views and aiding in altering perceptions about the country, its people, and its internal affairs. She recalled that the Arab Parliament had previously convened in Baghdad, underscoring Iraq’s role within the institution.
