Diyala: The head of the Border Ports Authority, Lieutenant General Omar Adnan Al-Waeli, inspected the Mandali and Al-Mundhiriya border crossings in the Diyala Governorate, emphasizing the implementation of the Prime Minister’s directives to bolster oversight and governance.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Waeli’s field visit was conducted alongside the Director of Border Security in the National Security Service and the Director of Diyala Security. The aim was to assess performance levels and ensure adherence to recently issued government decisions. These decisions, particularly those from Prime Minister Ali Falih Al-Zaidi, require the presence of officers from both the National Intelligence Service and the National Security Service within customs inspection and trade exchange areas at border crossings. This measure seeks to enhance security, intelligence vetting, and tighten control over the movement of goods and travelers.

During the visit, Al-Waeli toured the facilities at the two border crossings, scrutinizing work mechanisms and existing procedures. He underscored the necessity for full compliance with government directives and the integration of all security and oversight agencies to ensure smooth operations, preventing any potential smuggling or manipulation.

The inspection also included an extensive meeting with directors and representatives of the departments operating at the crossings. Discussions centered on improving institutional performance, streamlining procedures, increasing non-oil revenues, addressing operational obstacles, and preparing for the influx of visitors for the commemoration of Arba’een of Imam Hussein. Additionally, Al-Waeli emphasized the importance of adhering to electronic systems and regulations, while reinforcing coordination among all relevant parties.

Al-Waeli reiterated the Border Ports Authority’s commitment to executing the government program focused on enhancing economic security, improving performance efficiency, and applying the highest standards of oversight and transparency. These efforts aim to protect public funds and serve the public interest effectively.
