Baghdad: ARY News reported that 14 children, aged between 4 and 16, were killed when the roof of an educational center in Lahore, eastern Pakistan, collapsed.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the channel stated that “at least 14 children died when the roof of an educational center in the Kahna area of Lahore collapsed on Tuesday.” It added that construction work was underway on the roof when the building collapsed, and police have arrested five people on suspicion of negligence, including the building’s owners.
Approximately 35 children, aged between 4 and 16, were inside the educational center when the roof collapsed. Rescue teams pulled 20 injured children and one teacher from the rubble, and search and rescue operations are ongoing.
A spokesperson for the rescue teams said that, according to initial reports, some construction work was taking place on the roof, and the condition of more than 12 children is critical.
