Baghdad: President Nizar Amedi received Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi at Baghdad Palace on Wednesday.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the Media Office of the Presidency of the Republic stated that the meeting emphasized the increasing momentum in Iraq-GCC relations and a mutual commitment to expanding cooperation across various sectors.

The statement noted President Amedi’s warm reception of the Secretary-General, highlighting the deep-rooted connections between Iraq and the GCC member states, as well as the steady improvement in their relations. President Amedi stressed that Iraq’s security is closely linked with that of the Gulf states, and emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration and coordination to promote regional stability, enhance shared prosperity, and serve the common interests of their peoples.

President Amedi reiterated that Iraq’s foreign policy is driven by openness and constructive engagement with its regional and international partners. He added that expanding cooperation with regional partners aligns with shared interests and reflects Iraq’s dedication to constructive engagement. He also highlighted the necessity of deepening coordination and consultation on mutual concerns to advance regional security, stability, and sustainable development.

Secretary-General Albudaiwi conveyed greetings from the leaders of the GCC member states to President Amedi and reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to intensifying cooperation with Iraq. He emphasized the need to expand partnership and regional integration to support lasting security, stability, and shared prosperity.
