Baghdad: The Center for the Protection and Preservation of Cultural Heritage is organizing an awareness seminar in Baghdad. The Center for the Protection and Preservation of Cultural Heritage, at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, in cooperation with the Baghdad Cultural Center, organized a scientific seminar and accompanying exhibition entitled "Preserving Intangible Cultural Heritage" in the Hussein Ali Mahfouz Hall on Friday. This event was part of the Center's efforts to raise awareness about the importance of intangible cultural heritage and its preservation.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the seminar included a lecture by Walid Abdul Majeed Al-Banna, who reviewed the concept of intangible cultural heritage according to the 2003 UNESCO Convention, highlighting its key areas and the challenges facing its protection in Iraq. He emphasized the importance of scientific and digital documentation in preserving this heritage and transmitting it to future generations.
Discussions during the seminar focused on the role of academic and media institutions and local communities in protecting intangible heritage. The Center affirmed its commitment to continuing its scientific and awareness programs to enhance the preservation of Iraqi cultural heritage and highlight its civilizational value.
