Baghdad: Justice Minister Khalid Shawani met with French Ambassador to Iraq Patrick Durel on Sunday to discuss strengthening judicial and legal cooperation between Baghdad and Paris and exchanging expertise in training correctional staff.
According to Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry stated, “Justice Minister Khalid Shawani received the French Ambassador to Iraq, Patrick Durel, accompanied by Judge Claire Thibault, at the Ministry headquarters to discuss prospects for enhancing judicial and legal cooperation between the two friendly countries.”
The statement further emphasized that the meeting focused on strengthening judicial and legal cooperation and exchanging legal expertise, aiming to develop institutional capacities and enhance the efficiency of judicial work. It also highlighted discussions on mechanisms for cooperation in training correctional staff, particularly correctional officers, and organizing specialized training courses that cover best international practices in dealing with inmates accordin
g to legal and humanitarian standards.
Moreover, the French ambassador expressed France’s readiness to cooperate with the Ministry of Justice in various judicial and legal fields, aiming to strengthen bilateral relations and develop the partnership between Baghdad and Paris. This collaboration is expected to enhance the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two friendly peoples.
