Ministry of Environment Engages in Campaign to Tackle Water Hyacinth

Baghdad: The Ministry of Environment has taken an active role in the significant national campaign aimed at combating the spread of the water hyacinth, a plant identified as a major threat to Iraq's water resources and biodiversity. Dr. Iktifaa Mazhar Al-Hasnawi, the Administrative Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment, represented Minister Sarwa Abdul Wahid during the campaign, which is supported by Adnan Faihan Al-Dulaimi, the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the campaign is a crucial part of national efforts to address the challenges posed by the water hyacinth. This invasive species is known for obstructing water flow, increasing water consumption, and harming biodiversity, as well as the efficiency of water infrastructure. The initiative seeks to strengthen collaborative governmental actions to manage and mitigate the impact of this plant on Iraq's ecosystems.
