Baghdad: The Federal Integrity Commission announced the preparation of draft international memoranda of understanding for the recovery of funds and the extradition of accused individuals. Abbas Mutab, Director General of the Recovery Department at the Integrity Commission and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Iraqi Funds Recovery Fund, emphasized the importance of these efforts.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Mutab revealed that while some countries are not cooperating with Iraq on recovering funds from corrupt individuals, others have shown willingness to collaborate. He highlighted the challenges faced in negotiating with countries whose domestic laws prevent them from taking the actions requested by Iraq.
Mutab further explained that Iraq often resorts to negotiations and explores alternative mechanisms for cooperation with these countries. He noted that many nations are hesitant to cooperate due to economic and humanitarian concerns. Additionally, the extradition process is complicated when the accused individuals are refugees in these countries, making their extradition particularly challenging.
