Baghdad: Kirkuk police apprehended the thief who stole 825 million dinars two years after his escape, in a high-profile operation in Baghdad. A statement from the Ministry of Interior said, "A team from the Kirkuk Anti-Crime Department managed to arrest a suspect in the largest robbery the province witnessed in 2024."
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the case dates back to 2024, when the suspect stole 825 million Iraqi dinars from the owner of a money exchange company in Kirkuk. From the moment the incident occurred, the suspect used sophisticated methods of disguise and concealment, constantly moving between Iraqi provinces in an attempt to evade justice.
A specialized team was formed, conducting meticulous technical and field follow-up for months. After accurately locating the suspect in Baghdad Governorate, a force from the counter-terrorism units moved to the capital. Coordination was established with the Rusafa Police Command and intelligence agencies. In a well-executed ambush and a highly professional raid, the suspect, who believed he was beyond the reach of the law, was apprehended.
The suspect's statement was recorded, and he confessed explicitly to the crime attributed to him. He was then presented to the judiciary to complete the legal procedures against him.
