Basra: The Basra branch of the Iraqi Bar Association has called for urgent government intervention following the killing of an Iraqi fisherman, insisting that those responsible be brought to justice.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the association released a statement expressing its sorrow and condemnation over the killing of an Iraqi fisherman by Kuwaiti river police. The incident was described as a significant violation requiring a decisive response from both the government and the legal system.
The association highlighted the need for immediate action from the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It urged the ministry to pursue diplomatic and legal measures, including turning to international courts and bodies, to ensure accountability for the perpetrators, protect the rights of Iraqi citizens, and uphold the dignity of the nation.
Furthermore, the association underscored the importance of preventing similar incidents in the future and called for measures to safeguard Iraqi fishermen. It also expressed solidarity with the family of the victim, affirming its commitment to supporting them in this challenging time.
