Baghdad: The Deputy Commander of Joint Operations and Head of the Supreme Security Committee for the Million-Person Pilgrimages, Lieutenant General Qais al-Muhammadawi, emphasized the critical need for executing the Arba'een pilgrimage plans in line with established timetables. On Tuesday, he highlighted this priority during his ongoing assessments of the preparations for securing the Arba'een pilgrimage dedicated to Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Supreme Security Committee for the Million-Person Pilgrimages released a statement detailing Lieutenant General Al-Muhammadawi's intensive field visits. On Tuesday, he inspected the al-Mundhiriya border crossing to evaluate the readiness for accommodating the influx of pilgrims from overseas. Accompanied by a high-ranking delegation, including the Head of the Service Committee for the Million-Person Pilgrimages and various security commanders and directors general, Al-Muhammadawi focused on assessing the progress of work at this crucial entry point.
The statement further revealed that an extensive meeting took place at the border crossing, attended by representatives from both Iraq and Iran. The discussions resulted in joint coordination mechanisms being established to facilitate the smooth movement of pilgrims, adhering strictly to Iraqi laws and regulations. Key agreements included direct coordination on thorough inspection procedures, standardization of databases and security information, and setting daily entry quotas. Additionally, the border crossing is to be equipped with extra computers to expedite procedures and prevent congestion.
The meeting underscored the collaboration between Iraqi and Iranian border departments, including nationality, residency, passports, intelligence, and narcotics control units. This coordination is aimed at ensuring immediate cooperation and addressing any legal violations. Logistical and service aspects were also deliberated, with an integrated transportation plan being a primary focus to manage the movement of pilgrims to the holy cities. Ensuring a stable electricity supply throughout the pilgrims' arrival period was also prioritized to maintain continuity in technical and operational activities at the border crossing.
In concluding his tour, Al-Muhammadawi reiterated the necessity of implementing plans per each department's specialization and adhering to approved schedules. He emphasized the review of reports from previous pilgrimage seasons to promptly address any weaknesses and reinforce successful strategies, thereby facilitating smoother entry procedures for visitors.
