Integrity Commission Dismisses Director of Military Works on Corruption Suspicion

Baghdad: The Federal Integrity Commission dismissed the Director of Military Works on suspicion of corruption related to a contract for the rehabilitation, development, and furnishing of the Air Force Hospital in Rustamiya.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Commission explained in a statement: "The field team formed to audit and investigate Ministry of Defense contracts, in cooperation with the Rapid Response Forces, was able to execute the arrest warrant issued by the judge of the Central Anti-Corruption Criminal Court against a brigadier general, a colonel, a brigadier general, and five engineers in the Directorate of Works."

The Commission added that the operation was conducted following audits and investigations by the commission's team tasked with reviewing and scrutinizing government contracts. These investigations revealed suspicions of financial and administrative corruption and serious violations in the awarding and pricing procedures of the contract concluded between the Directorate of Military Works and a foreign company for the sum of ninety-two billion dinars. The contract was awarded through direct contracting without following the usual price competition, with significant inflated prices for many of its clauses, in addition to numerous modifications that noticeably increased the estimated cost of the contract.

The Commission noted that a formal seizure report was prepared for the operation, which was conducted in accordance with the provisions of Article (340) of the Penal Code. This report, along with the accused and the seized items, was presented to the competent investigating judge in preparation for completing the investigation procedures and determining the fate of the accused.
