Ankara Confirms Continuation of S-400 Missile System Procedures

Ankara: The Turkish Ministry of Defense has confirmed the ongoing procedures related to the S-400 long-range air defense missile system. Turkish Defense Ministry spokesman Zeki Akturk stated during a press briefing today that any concrete developments regarding the system would be announced in due course.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, in an interview with The National newspaper on July 10, addressed the potential transfer of S-400 missile systems to the United Arab Emirates. Fidan explained that discussions and negotiations are underway within the Turkish government and emphasized the need for dialogue with Russia, as the systems were originally purchased from them.

In other defense-related developments, the Ministry of Defense highlighted its confidence in expanding the harmonious relations between Turkey and Syria, aiming to establish new cooperation avenues and enhance the capabilities of the Syrian Navy for regional stability. The Commander of the Turkish Naval Forces and his delegation visited Syria on July 13 to foster military cooperation and address common interests.

Regarding relations with Egypt, the Ministry affirmed that Ankara and Cairo have shared interests grounded in deep historical and cultural ties. Recent high-level reciprocal visits have accelerated military cooperation between the two nations. The spokesperson emphasized that reciprocal military contacts have bolstered dialogue in defense and security, leading to significant advancements in military training, joint operations, and defense industries.

Joint exercises conducted in June in Egypt and Turkey, involving air elements, have enhanced interoperability, joint operational capabilities, and mutual expertise exchange. Discussions between Turkish and Egyptian defense ministers also covered bilateral defense and security issues. A letter of intent on defense cooperation was signed, underlining the commitment to deepen ties and explore new cooperation areas for peace, stability, and security in the region.
