Baghdad: US Special Envoy to Iraq Tom Barrack has confirmed the denial issued by Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi’s office concerning a report by the New York Times. The report claimed that Iran had rejected Iraq’s efforts to mediate a ceasefire between Washington and Tehran.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Barrack reposted the denial from the Prime Minister’s office on his website, adding a comment that stated, “Iraq clarifies the facts.” The statement from al-Zaidi’s office refuted the claims made by the New York Times about Iran’s alleged rejection of the ceasefire proposal.

The New York Times had reported that Iran dismissed the proposal conveyed by al-Zaidi, which was intended to ease tensions between the United States and Iran. The Iraqi Prime Minister’s office, however, has firmly denied these claims, emphasizing Iraq’s commitment to fostering dialogue and peace in the region.
