Baghdad: The Military Intelligence Directorate announced on Sunday the thwarting of a smuggling attempt involving trucks loaded with food and industrial goods destined for Diyala.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the directorate stated, “As part of its ongoing duties to protect economic security and combat smuggling operations, detachments of the Military Intelligence Directorate in the Intelligence and Security Department of the 1st Infantry Division, acting on precise intelligence, thwarted an attempt to smuggle large quantities of food and industrial goods into Diyala Governorate.” The operation was initiated after receiving intelligence that trucks, loaded with goods from another governorate, intended to enter Diyala Governorate in violation of existing regulations.

The directorate further explained that specialized detachments quickly responded by implementing a well-planned ambush. This strategic maneuver led to the successful seizure of the trucks and their cargo. The operation underscores the directorate’s commitment to safeguarding the region’s economic security.

The statement concluded with the information that the seized goods and vehicles, along with their drivers, have been handed over to the relevant authorities. These authorities are expected to take appropriate legal actions against those involved in the smuggling attempt.
