Baghdad: The Ministry of Youth and Sports has taken significant steps to enhance cooperation with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries by activating memoranda of understanding and executive programs. This initiative underscores the commitment to fostering youth and sports collaboration between Iraq and the GCC.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the announcement was made during a meeting organized by the committee established by the Prime Minister’s Office, focusing on implementing the main joint action plan between Iraq and the GCC. The meeting took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighting the strategic importance of these partnerships.

The Director General of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation, Hussam Hassan, stated in a press release that the Ministry is diligently working to implement the signed memoranda of understanding with some Gulf countries. Efforts are also underway to finalize agreements and work programs with other GCC nations. Hassan emphasized the success of soft diplomacy during the 25th Gulf Cup, which played a crucial role in bridging past gaps. He also mentioned the successful implementation of training workshops in physical education, sports, and sports media with Saudi Arabia, along with sports cooperation across various disciplines with other Gulf countries.

Adding to this, the Iraqi Ambassador to Riyadh, Safia al-Suhail, participated in the meeting via video conference. She confirmed ongoing communication with the organizing committee of the upcoming 27th Gulf Cup in Saudi Arabia. Al-Suhail called for close coordination with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Iraqi Football Association to ensure Iraq’s successful participation in the tournament, which will be hosted by Riyadh next September.
