Baghdad: The Reconstruction and Development parliamentary bloc has issued a warning about the potential for a military and verbal escalation between the United States and Iran, emphasizing that Iraq would bear the brunt of any military conflict in the region.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, MP Bahaa al-Araji, the head of the bloc, put forth a formal proposal during a press conference on Saturday. The proposal suggests the creation of a high-level “Iraqi Peace Delegation,” which would include representatives from the Iraqi government, the Council of Representatives, and various political blocs.

Al-Araji detailed that the delegation would focus its efforts on conducting diplomatic visits to both Washington and Tehran. The purpose of these visits would be to alleviate tensions and avert war, or to ensure that Iraq remains neutral and does not become a participant or battleground in any potential armed conflict. He urged the Iraqi government, the Speaker of Parliament, and political forces to swiftly and positively respond to the proposal, highlighting the importance of maintaining Iraq’s security and stability.
