Baghdad: The Minister of Justice, Dr. Khalid Shawani, held a meeting with Abdul Rahim Sir Al-Khatim, the Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan to Iraq, to discuss the finalization of an agreement for the exchange of prisoners between the two nations. The meeting focused on strengthening judicial and legal cooperation through the imminent signing of this agreement, aligning with the applicable legal frameworks and aiming to serve the mutual interests of Iraq and Sudan.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Dr. Shawani emphasized the Ministry of Justice’s dedication to fostering cooperation with both brotherly and friendly nations. He highlighted the importance of concluding agreements and memoranda of understanding in the judicial and legal fields as a means to enhance bilateral relations and achieve shared goals for the people of Iraq and Sudan.

In response, the Sudanese Ambassador expressed gratitude for the Ministry’s efforts to boost legal collaboration. He underscored Sudan’s eagerness to complete the necessary steps for the prisoner exchange agreement, noting that it would reinforce cooperative ties between Baghdad and Khartoum, benefiting both countries within the framework of their fraternal relations.

Furthermore, the ambassador delivered a congratulatory message from the Sudanese Minister of Justice, Abdullah Mohammed Darouf, to Dr. Shawani on his reappointment as Minister of Justice in the current government. The message conveyed wishes for success in his duties and reiterated Sudan’s commitment to building cooperative bridges and strengthening judicial and legal relations between the two countries, ensuring alignment with their common interests.
