Istanbul: Imprisoned Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) leader Abdullah -calan has called for support for the "framework law" crucial to the peace process and has urged against pessimism regarding the delay in its ratification.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, in a message published today by a delegation from the Turkish Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (Equality and Democracy Party), -calan emphasized that this step represents "the beginning of a historic democratic path aimed at ending the decades-long armed conflict and integrating into society."
-calan stressed that this process is not a need for Kurds alone, nor does it serve one group over another. Instead, it is a genuine requirement for everyone living on this land, regardless of ethnicity or nationality, because its impact will extend to the fate of the country and the entire region. It will pave the way for the development of democratic law and the growth of economic opportunities, making it a significant achievement for the 86 million people living in this country.
He explained that the road ahead is still long and not everything has been resolved yet. However, he called for avoiding pessimism, emphasizing that the most important thing is a correct understanding of this step. He asserted that everyone must bear their responsibilities to ensure the success of the process. He emphasized that there is no crisis that warrants a negative approach, but rather a broad horizon that can be built by organizing society and unifying efforts.
In concluding his message, -calan considered the law that politicians will enact not merely a legislative text, but rather the key that unlocks the path to this process. He declared that the doors of a democratic republic are now wide open, calling on everyone to seize this historic moment to achieve a major breakthrough that serves peace, the economy, and the shared future of all.
The message was delivered by a delegation from the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM) after visiting him in his prison on Imrali Island, near Istanbul. The delegation stated, "As the DEM Party delegation in Imrali, we met with Mr. Abdullah -calan last Sunday. During the meeting, Mr. -calan shared his assessments of the current situation and the historical responsibilities of the coming period. He also conveyed to our delegation the messages he wishes to communicate to the public."
