Al-Sudani Highlights Successful Engagement with New Reality in Damascus

Baghdad: The head of the Reconstruction and Development Coalition, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, has affirmed the success of their strategic engagement with the evolving situation in Damascus, emphasizing that this approach has been validated over time. This engagement recently culminated in high-profile visits by Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani, Supreme Judicial Council President Judge Faiq Zaidan, and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Sudani expressed in a post on the “X” website that the coalition’s responsible initiation of dialogue with the new reality in Damascus, along with the subsequent meeting in Doha with Ahmed al-Sharaa, was driven by an understanding that regional stability necessitates a clear vision and proactive diplomacy.

He further elaborated that the recent visits by key Iraqi figures, including Supreme Judicial Council President Judge Faiq Zaidan, preceded by visits from the Kurdistan Region President and the Foreign Minister, mark significant progress. The two countries are now establishing a comprehensive framework that spans diplomatic openness and legal and judicial cooperation. Al-Sudani reiterated that the foresight of this initiative has been proven over time, underscoring Iraq’s role as a maker of solutions and a pillar of regional peace, grounded in shared interests and the rule of law.
