Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has emphasized that relying on a limited number of countries to maintain global peace and security will not yield lasting solutions to the challenges confronting humanity.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Erdogan expressed these views in an article published on Saudi Arabia’s Al Arabiya channel, marking the 25th anniversary of the founding of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) on August 14. He remarked that the assertion “the world is bigger than five” encapsulates the essence of Turkey’s proposal that international institutions, particularly the United Nations, should more fairly and inclusively reflect the current global power dynamics and societal diversity.
The Turkish president advocated for a more inclusive, effective, and accountable international system, highlighting Turkey’s growing influence in the shifting international order toward multipolarity. Erdogan underscored Turkey’s multidimensional approach, combining diplomacy, dialogue, and humanitarian responsibility, while defending the rights of the oppressed globally.
He further noted Turkey’s contributions to peace and stability across regions, from the Black Sea to the Middle East, and from the Caucasus to Africa, as a robust NATO ally, a member of the G20, and a leading participant in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the European security framework.
Erdogan stated that Turkey’s strategic independence is key to fostering balanced relationships based on mutual respect and shared interests. He highlighted the AKP’s goal of advancing Turkey through a strong democracy, a productive economy, leading technology, an influential foreign policy, and robust social cohesion, pointing out significant strides in defense industries and advanced technology, reducing foreign dependency.
Reflecting on the AKP’s inception in 2001, Erdogan remarked on the party’s role as a beacon of hope for millions seeking prosperity and rights. He described the past 25 years as a period of historic transformation for Turkey, strengthening democratic legitimacy, enhancing state service capacity, and expanding societal participation in public life.
The Turkish President attributed the AKP’s enduring strength to its deep connection with the people, emphasizing the responsibility of continuous renewal. He called for an honest assessment of people’s evolving aspirations, economic challenges, and political practices, stressing the importance of reform and leadership in change.
Looking ahead, Erdogan pledged to tackle inflation, boost production, investment, and employment, and ensure equitable opportunity access for youth. He articulated a vision for “Turkey’s Century,” aiming for a future marked by strong democracy, productive economy, leading technology, influential foreign policy, and social solidarity, blending past achievements with future potential.
Erdogan concluded by marking the AKP’s 25th anniversary as a historical milestone for reflection and future planning, reaffirming the commitment to reform and potential-driven progress with the Turkish nation.
