Tehran: Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, has issued a response to US President Donald Trump’s recent assertion regarding the Strait of Hormuz. Gharibabadi dismissed Trump’s claim of declaring the strait as “US territory” as impractical and urged the US to acknowledge the actual geopolitical dynamics.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Gharibabadi emphasized in a press release that the control over the Strait of Hormuz cannot be determined by a tweet, an aircraft carrier, an order, or an election speech. He urged Washington to come to terms with the existing realities. Gharibabadi further stated that any decision to open or close the strait would be made solely by Iran, cautioning that the blockade would remain in place unless the United States recognizes its “strategic defeats.”

This statement came in reaction to President Trump’s recent speech, where he declared his intention to claim the Strait of Hormuz as US territory, an assertion that has drawn strong reactions from Iranian authorities.
