Baghdad: The Directorate of Residency Affairs outlined on Saturday the legal procedures for granting entry visas to foreign workers in Iraq, emphasizing that the process is subject to review by several governmental and security agencies.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Brigadier General Laith Hussein Mudher, Director of the Deportation and Removal Section, stated that “Law 76 of 2017, the Law on the Residence of Foreigners, regulates the mechanism for granting regular entry visas to foreign workers. The process begins with applications submitted by labor recruitment agencies registered with the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, and the payment of fees to obtain a work permit.”

He further explained that “the work permits are then referred to the Directorate of Residency Affairs for security vetting in coordination with the National Intelligence Service and the Federal Intelligence and Investigations Agency.”

“In the event of any negative security indication, the worker is immediately deported, while the residency procedures are completed for those whose records are clear of any issues,” he highlighted.
