Baghdad: The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights commemorated the twelfth anniversary of the massacre in the Yazidi village of Kocho, Sinjar district, perpetrated by ISIS terrorist gangs in 2014.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Commission described the massacre as a horrific episode in a systematic genocide targeting the Yazidi community. Hundreds of people lost their lives, with some buried in mass graves and others missing. Women and children were subjected to captivity and grave violations.

The Commission emphasized that the commemoration is not just about remembering the past but a call for justice for victims and survivors. It urges for the pursuit of perpetrators, efforts to uncover the fate of the missing, and genuine reconstruction to ensure the safe return of displaced persons. The statement underscores the necessity of preventing such atrocities in the future.

The Commission concluded with a statement of remembrance for the martyrs and a wish for freedom and dignified return for all abducted and missing individuals.
