Baghdad: A medical team from Al-Mustansiriya University successfully performed two emergency endoscopic procedures at Yarmouk Hospital. A specialized surgical team from the College of Medicine at Al-Mustansiriya University carried out two endoscopic interventions on emergency cases at the Gastroenterology Center of Yarmouk Teaching Hospital. These medical efforts contributed to controlling the patients’ conditions and stabilizing their health.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the university’s media office stated, “The interventions were led by Dr. Ali Mohammed Fadhil, a consultant in gastroenterology and hepatology at Al-Mustansiriya University, with the participation of medical, nursing, and anesthesia staff, as well as Iraqi Board students.”

The media office further added, “The first case involved a 50-year-old patient who presented to the center suffering from bleeding in the upper gastrointestinal tract. Endoscopic examination revealed a bleeding ulcer, and the medical team successfully controlled the bleeding by placing an endoscopic clip on the site of the hemorrhage, which contributed to stabilizing her condition.”

In the second case, the team received a 23-year-old female patient who was experiencing severe difficulty swallowing. An endoscopic examination revealed a chicken bone lodged in the middle of her esophagus, which the team successfully removed endoscopically. The patient was then placed under medical observation to ensure her condition was stable.

The university’s media office pointed out that “this achievement reflects the high level of medical competence and specialization possessed by the medical staff at the College of Medicine, Al-Mustansiriya University, and their ability to handle emergency cases.”
