Central Bank Governors of Iraq and Iran Discuss Financial Dues Settlement


Baghdad: The Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, Nizar Nasser Hussein, engaged in talks with his Iranian counterpart, Abdolnasser Hemmati, to explore mechanisms for settling financial dues and regulating trade exchanges. This discussion took place in line with governance, transparency, and international compliance standards.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting was held at the Central Bank’s headquarters in Baghdad, with the Iranian delegation accompanied by the Iranian Ambassador to Iraq, Mohammad Kazem Al-Sadegh. The discussions centered on financial and monetary issues of mutual interest and the enhancement of bilateral banking relations to serve the economic interests of both countries.



The statement from the Central Bank highlighted the focus on governance and transparency in settling financial dues and regulating trade exchanges. Nizar Nasser Hussein reiterated Iraq’s commitment to implementing supervisory and banking practices aimed at ensuring the stability of the local financial system. The talks also emphasized expanding regional and international coordination frameworks to support and stabilize Iraq’s national economy.



In response, Abdolnasser Hemmati expressed Iran’s eagerness to broaden the scope of cooperation and joint coordination with Iraq in the near future.
