Baghdad: An economic expert has indicated that Iraq’s 2027 budget will prioritize development and steer clear of ancillary laws. Economic expert Dirgham Muhammad Ali emphasized that the upcoming budget will be dedicated to development efforts without the complications of supplementary laws. He noted that the current line-item budget involves laws and regulations that will be distinctly separated in the projects budget.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Muhammad Ali stated, “The five-year leave law, the value-added tax law, and the powers related to transfers and collection will be addressed in separate laws and regulations.” He further clarified that “the new budget will focus on development and will not be fragmented by supplementary laws, so as not to be disjointed and complex, and will concentrate on clear development programs.”
It is important to highlight that the Ministry of Finance has previously announced that the 2027 budget will be a program-based budget rather than a line-item budget, marking a significant shift in the country’s fiscal planning approach.
