Baghdad: The Ministry of Oil has announced a significant increase in the gas processing capacity at the Halfaya field, now reaching 190 million cubic meters per day. The field’s production capacity remains at 400,000 barrels per day.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Deputy Minister of Oil for Extraction Affairs, Nasir Aziz, held a meeting with PetroChina Halfaya’s Chairman, Dink Mencken. They discussed production rates, project completion percentages, and plans for associated gas investment, while also exploring ways to enhance cooperation between the Ministry and PetroChina.
The Deputy Minister highlighted the Halfaya field’s importance as a primary field in Maysan Governorate and southern Iraq. He acknowledged the Chinese company’s commitment to increasing production and investing in associated gas. The Halfaya gas processing project is vital, with processed quantities reaching 190 million standard cubic feet per day by early 2026, out of a design capacity of 300 MMscfd. This project supports the Amarah government power plant, the Maysan investment power plant, the Kahlaa power plant, and the national grid.
PetroChina’s president reaffirmed the company’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Ministry of Oil and implementing projects according to the plans and timelines set.
