Ammar Al-Hakim Insists on State-Controlled Weaponry as a Legal Imperative

Baghdad: Mr. Al-Hakim, head of the National State Forces Alliance, emphasized on Monday that the confinement of weapons to state control is both a constitutional and legal obligation.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Hakim’s office released a statement revealing that he had received a delegation from the political bureau of the Reconstruction and Development Coalition, led by Haider al-Fawadi, at his office in Baghdad. Discussions focused on the evolving political landscape in Iraq and the broader region.

Al-Hakim highlighted the critical need for collective efforts to address the challenges confronting Iraq. He identified the economic challenge as the foremost issue, urging the transformation of this challenge into an opportunity by shifting away from a rentier state reliant on a single-source economy. He proposed diversifying the economy and export routes through a pipeline network extending to the Red Sea and the Mediterranean.

Furthermore, Al-Hakim reiterated his commitment to combating corruption and stressed the importance of concentrating on major issues. He asserted that restricting weapons to state control is essential for constitutional and legal compliance, underscoring the significance of resolving unresolved issues through dialogue and national consensus.
