Baghdad: Al-Mustansiriya University has launched the Seventh Applied Engineering Conference, facilitated in partnership with the Ministries of Oil and Industry. This event, organized by the College of Engineering at Al-Mustansiriya University and the Research and Development Center, is drawing significant participation from researchers and specialists from both Iraqi and international universities.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the conference was inaugurated with an address by the President of Al-Mustansiriya University, Safaa Taqi Al-Issawi. He underscored the strategic importance of the conference in leveraging advanced scientific research to aid state institutions. The Ministries of Oil and Industry stand to gain the most from these efforts, as the research aims to provide practical engineering solutions to challenges faced in national projects.
Al-Issawi elaborated that this collaboration aligns with the university’s vision of converting scientific research into an economic asset. He highlighted the significant contribution of the university’s engineering programs, which have achieved five-star institutional accreditation and excelled in the Times Higher Education rankings. This recognition positions the university as a pivotal partner in national construction and development efforts.
Ali Khalid Jassim Al-Shammari, the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs at the College of Engineering, further explained that the conference included the presentation of seventeen scientific papers. These papers touched on various engineering disciplines such as civil, electrical, mechanical, environmental, architectural, and petroleum engineering, all aimed at addressing current technological needs.
The conference sessions featured a range of studies, including those on sustainable building practices using recycled materials, seismic performance evaluation of buildings, the application of artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things in smart agriculture and solar panel tracking, and the development of mathematical models for decision-making in infrastructure projects. Other topics included the design of self-healing sensor networks and the impact of architectural design on urban thermal stress in Baghdad.
