Foreign Ministry: Washington Strongly Supports Iraqi Government


Baghdad: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Friday that Prime Minister Ali Falih Al-Zaidi’s visit to the United States focused on four main issues, noting that the visit received a warm welcome from U.S. President Trump.



According to Iraqi News Agency, speaking during a dialogue session at the eighth Baghdad Dialogue Conference, attended by an INA correspondent, Director of America Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Nizar Al-Hakim, emphasized that the Prime Minister’s visit to the United States involved numerous challenges and was preceded by extensive preparations. The visit primarily centered on addressing political challenges, enhancing stability, and fostering economic and diplomatic ties.



Ambassador Al-Hakim highlighted that the visit was warmly welcomed by President Trump, reflecting a strong inclination within the U.S. government to support the Iraqi government. He stated that Iraq has adopted a stance of neutrality in its foreign relations, emphasizing the importance of a positive form of neutrality.



He elaborated on Iraq’s strategic strengths and its robust relationships with both the United States and Iran, suggesting that Iraq is well-positioned to mediate between the two nations. This potential role as a mediator underscores Iraq’s diplomatic significance in the region.



Concurrently, the Head of the Neighboring Countries Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Laith Al-Athari, underscored the importance of Prime Minister Al-Zaidi’s visit to Trkiye. He noted that the timing of the visit was crucial in identifying agreements and renewing partnerships between the two countries.



Al-Adhari stated that Iraq’s capacity to export 750,000 barrels per day amid an export crisis marks a significant achievement, alongside the signing of important memoranda of understanding related to the Development Road and the Silk Road. He indicated that there is considerable interest from the Turkish side regarding the visit of the Iraqi delegation.



He further explained that one of the key memoranda of understanding pertains to water management and retention mechanisms, with coordinated efforts between Iraq and Trkiye through joint working teams.
