FIFA Imposes Harsh Sanctions on Several Argentine Players


Zurich: The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) issued harsh sanctions on several Argentine national team players on Friday, a month after the brawl that erupted following the World Cup final between Argentina and Spain. The sanctions included all those involved in the incident. FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee suspended Leandro Paredes for 10 matches, deeming him the most violent player in the final minutes of the match. Nahuel Molina received a 7-match ban for his unprovoked attack on Rodri. Almada was suspended for one match for holding Xavi while he was being struck by Leandro. Ayala received a 3-match ban for punching Dani Olmo, while Xavi, the only Spanish player to be sanctioned, received a 1-match ban for pushing Eric Garcia, who had also been assaulted by Paredes.



According to Iraqi News Agency, the committee also issued sanctions against the four members of the Argentine national team delegation, in addition to imposing large financial fines on them.
