Refrigerated Trucks with Spoiled Ukrainian Red Meat Seized at Rabia Border

Rabia: Four refrigerated trucks carrying red meat originating from Ukraine were seized after being abandoned in the inspection yard and deemed unfit for human consumption.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Border Ports Authority announced the seizure of the trucks at the Rabia border crossing. The trucks, which had been left in the customs inspection area for 20 days, were found to have bypassed necessary procedures due to the lack of an accreditation certificate from the Ministry of Agriculture.

The Authority’s press release detailed that an expanded committee, led by the Civil Customs Center and including members from the Health and Veterinary Quarantine Departments, conducted an inspection of the cargo. The inspection uncovered foul odors and signs of thawing in the meat, indicating spoilage and confirming it was unfit for human consumption.

Following the committee’s findings, the four refrigerated trucks were seized in accordance with regulations, and the Rabia investigating judge authorized the referral of the case, along with the drivers, to the Rabia Customs Police Station. Legal proceedings are expected to be initiated against the importing company and the customs clearance agent.
