Baghdad: Iraqi Justice Minister Khalid Shawani met on Saturday with Joshua Harris, Charg© d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Baghdad, to discuss the issue of foreign prisoners transferred from Syria and legal and judicial cooperation between the two countries.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Justice issued a statement noting that Justice Minister Khalid Shawani received Joshua Harris, Charg© d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Baghdad. During the meeting, they discussed several issues of mutual interest, most notably the issue of foreign prisoners transferred from Syria to Iraq, as well as ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in the legal and judicial fields.

The statement further elaborated that the meeting addressed mechanisms for cooperation and coordination regarding the issue of foreign prisoners, and ways to handle it in accordance with legal frameworks and established procedures, in line with Iraqi laws and international obligations.
