Baghdad: During the opening of the 17th Agricultural Week, Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi emphasized the importance of developing the agricultural sector and raising the level of local production to enhance food security.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Zaidi inaugurated the event, which was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture. The inauguration was attended by the Ministers of Agriculture, Trade, Education, Water Resources, and Environment, along with various officials, specialists, and representatives of companies and institutions operating in the agricultural sector.
The Prime Minister toured the exhibition pavilions that were part of the Agricultural Week activities, viewing agricultural products, technologies, and supplies displayed by participating companies and organizations. He also reviewed projects and experiments in plant and animal production, modern irrigation techniques, agricultural mechanization, and industries related to the agricultural sector.
Al-Zaidi highlighted the need to support farmers, provide a conducive environment for agricultural investment, and encourage the adoption of modern technologies to increase production and improve quality. He explained that the government will take initiatives to support the agricultural sector, leveraging Iraq’s rich land resources, both underground and surface, to achieve development.
The government’s focus on the agricultural sector is part of its economic and developmental vision, aiming to provide job opportunities, stimulate the local economy, reduce dependence on imports, and achieve balanced and sustainable development across all governorates.
The 17th Agricultural Week is being attended by 14 countries and over 200 specialized Iraqi, Arab, and international companies. This event serves as a platform for exchanging expertise and experiences, opening new avenues for cooperation and investment in the agricultural sector.
