Basra Investment Authority Engages in Talks with Parliamentary Committee to Boost Agricultural Investment

Basra: The head of the Basra Investment Authority, Engineer Alaa Abdul Hussein Salman, recently held discussions with the head of the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture and Water Resources, Faleh Hassan Al-Khazali. The meeting focused on strategies to bolster investment within Basra’s agricultural sector, aiming to diversify economic activities and promote sustainable development in the region.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the media office of the Basra Investment Authority released a statement detailing the key points addressed during the meeting. The discussion emphasized the importance of attracting both local and international investments into the agricultural sector. It also highlighted the need to provide suitable investment opportunities, remove obstacles, and simplify procedures for investors interested in establishing agricultural and production projects. These initiatives are intended to contribute to achieving food security and creating job opportunities in Basra Governorate.

Additionally, the two sides deliberated on Law No. (84) of 1985 concerning the Preservation of Hydrocarbon Resources. They examined the challenges related to its application on lands located within oil-producing areas and stressed the necessity of finding legal and administrative solutions. These solutions aim to preserve oil resources while allowing the investment of suitable lands for agricultural and development projects.

Both parties underscored the significance of enhancing coordination between legislative and executive bodies. They agreed on the importance of overcoming obstacles that hinder land investment, thus expanding the investment landscape in the agricultural sector and supporting the local economy in the governorate.
