Spanish League: Atletico Madrid and Villarreal End in a Stalemate


Ankara: The match between Atl©tico Madrid and their guest Villarreal ended in a 2-2 draw on Sunday in the second round of the Spanish Football League.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, Mark Poppel opened the scoring for Atl©tico Madrid in the 59th minute, giving the home side an early advantage. However, Villarreal responded with a penalty goal by Gerard Moreno in the 66th minute, leveling the score. The tension in the match heightened when Atl©tico’s Robin Le Normand received a red card in the 76th minute, reducing the team to ten players.



Despite being a man down, Atl©tico Madrid managed to regain the lead through Giuliano Simeone, who found the net in the 85th minute. Yet, Villarreal was quick to equalize once more with Giorgi Mikotadze converting a penalty in the 78th minute, concluding the match at a 2-2 draw.



In terms of standings, Atl©tico Madrid now has a total of 4 points, while Villarreal has accumulated 2 points after the first two rounds of the Spanish Football League.
