Baghdad: The Ministry of Electricity has issued a directive for the recognition of higher education degrees for families of martyrs, in accordance with specific regulations. The Baghdad Electricity Distribution Company has instructed its branches and departments to recognize the advanced degrees of employees covered by the Martyrs Foundation Law, complying with the relevant regulations and instructions.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the company’s directive is based on a letter from the Ministry of Electricity and a Cabinet decision allowing for possible exceptions to the regulations that govern the recognition of higher academic degrees. These exceptions are contingent upon obtaining prior approvals for completing studies before January 2, 2022.

The document explained that the amended Martyrs Foundation Law provides those covered by it the right to have their higher degrees recognized as an exception to existing laws. However, this exception must align with the regulations and procedures required for degree recognition, emphasizing the need for prior approvals for the studies.

The company stressed that being included under the Martyrs Foundation Law does not automatically ensure the recognition of a master’s or higher degree. Employees must meet all relevant legal and administrative requirements, and a comprehensive review of these requirements is necessary before starting the recognition process and implementing any employment-related outcomes.

The document urged relevant branches and departments to adhere to the instructions provided in a letter from the Ministry of Electricity’s legal department and to comply with applicable regulations.
