Baghdad: Deputy Speaker of Parliament Farhad al-Atroushi called for a legislative revolution and a comprehensive modernization of the legal system at the Baghdad Dialogue Conference. The eighth edition of the conference witnessed high-level attendance from state institutions, numerous political figures and officials, and a select group of experts, intellectuals, and those interested in political affairs.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Atroushi emphasized the importance of a legislative revolution within the legislative body, advocating for a comprehensive modernization of the legal system with the support of the federal government. This initiative aims to meet the demands of the current stage and contribute to addressing prevailing challenges.

Al-Atroushi highlighted Iraq’s rich diversity as a source of national strength, emphasizing the need for proper management, protection of religious and ethnic diversity, and preservation of the rights of all components of Iraqi society. He stressed that these efforts are crucial for serving Iraq and its future.

Furthermore, al-Atroushi underlined that political stability and adherence to the constitution are fundamental pillars for enabling state institutions and government bodies to effectively perform their duties and responsibilities. He asserted that political agreements and the implementation of the constitution are essential for allowing everyone to carry out their duties.

Al-Atroushi also pointed out a significant deficiency in the legislative structure, specifically the absence of a “Federal Council.” He explained that this council represents the other half of the legislative authority as stipulated in the constitution, indicating a need for its establishment to fulfill constitutional requirements.
