Baghdad: The Basra Governorate Police Command announced the arrest of a suspect who defrauded electrical shop owners, threatened citizens, and ran over a police officer.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the suspect was apprehended by Basra’s Anti-Crime Department under the direct supervision of Police Chief Major General Latif Abdul-Ridha Al-Saad. The arrest followed appeals and information circulating on social media about the suspect’s fraudulent activities targeting electrical supply store owners. The suspect would feign interest in purchasing appliances only to steal them.

Further investigations revealed that the suspect was involved in deceiving citizens with false promises of employment opportunities, engaging in tribal disputes, and making threats. Notably, he ran over a captain from the Al-Hussein Police Station, resulting in the officer suffering a fractured pelvis.

The arrest was made possible through the diligent efforts of the security detachments, which gathered information, conducted thorough investigations, and reviewed various reports and appeals. The police command emphasized that this operation underscores the effectiveness of Basra’s anti-crime units in responding to information from citizens and social media, conducting field investigations, identifying criminals, and taking appropriate legal action.
