Baghdad: The Ministry of Communications announced the dismantling of a significant network involved in the smuggling and reselling of unofficial satellite and packaged internet services to both citizens and businesses in Baghdad.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the ministry revealed that this operation was conducted under the directives and supervision of Minister of Communications Mustafa Sanad. The operation was executed in collaboration with the National Security Service, resulting in the dismantling of one of the largest smuggling networks in the region.

The network’s main base of operations was situated in the Adhamiya district of Baghdad. The ministry’s statement indicated that the equipment used by the network was confiscated, and the director of the network was apprehended. Additionally, the statement highlighted that other similar networks have been identified, and ongoing efforts are being made to dismantle these operations and arrest those involved.

The ministry further explained that the financial losses attributed to the unauthorized distribution of satellite and packaged internet services exceed 100 billion dinars annually.
