Baghdad: The Reconstruction and Development parliamentary bloc announced its support for the proposed amendment to the Teachers’ Protection Law, considering it a way of repaying the debt owed to teachers who have contributed so much to society.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, bloc leader MP Bahaa al-Araji stated in a joint press conference on Monday: “Our bloc discussed the articles of the law with the head of the Teachers’ Syndicate and concluded that there is a flaw in the educational system resulting from the significant expansion in the number of universities and colleges, particularly private ones.”

Al-Araji called for the establishment of an institute to develop and qualify teachers scientifically, socially, and behaviorally, so that teachers can be role models for students. He also called for providing teachers with special financial and social support to restore their former status and privileges, as well as ensuring their legal protection and preventing future violations against them. He further urged the Ministry of Education to recognize the Teachers’ Syndicate as the primary authority on teachers’ affairs, as it represents the spirit of this educational sector.
